We actually stayed at the base and didn't use the cable, because all tickets were sold out and the reservations were made online. So if you want a full experience, buy the tickets online. The view is spectacular, the landscape is magnificent.

Well worth the long drive round due to road closures because of fires, great experience, paths are uneven and tricky so a sturdy pair of shoes. We went up early morning and it was cool so you need a jacket at least. The gift shop as you leave the cable car has some lovely, local made jewellery not volcanic. Great experience
